With a worldwide pandemic, testing has become the new norm. Whether you are exhibiting symptoms, work in a high-risk position, are at higher risk yourself due to an underlying condition or traveling outside of the country, it is important to receive a COVID-19 test to properly determine your health.

What to do if you have COVID-19 symptoms?

If you have returned from travel outside of the country or have been in close contact with a known case you MUST self-isolate for 14 days following your return/exposure and monitor yourself for symptoms.

If you have symptoms like sore throat or flu then you MUST self-isolate for 10 days after the onset of symptoms or until your symptoms have resolved (whichever is longer).

If you are quarantined because you recently came back from outside the country, or you are in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19, you must remain on your own property. Under absolutely no circumstances should you leave your property at any time during the self-isolation period?

Which organs are most affected by COVID-19?

COVID‐19 can affect the upper respiratory tract including the sinuses, nose, throat, and the lower respiratory tract including the lungs and windpipe.

How do I book a COVID-19 Test?

Call Express Health to book your COVID-19 test today. It’s that easy! Or to make matters even more convenient, you can book an appointment online or visit our urgent care clinic now!

What happens during the test?

A doctor or nurse will carry out the test. They will need to swab your throat and your nose. To keep you and them safe, they will be wearing an apron, a mask, and gloves. They will explain to you what they are going to do and what the procedure will look like.

If you are getting a throat swab, they will ask you to sit upright and tilt your head back. You need to open your mouth and stick out your tongue. The tester may have a light to see into your mouth. They may need to press down on your tongue so they can see. They will ask you to say, “Ahhhhh,” and will gently rub a swab at the back of your throat and at the very back of your mouth on both sides. It won’t hurt but may be a bit uncomfortable.

If they are taking a swab from your nose, the doctor or nurse will tell you what they are going to do and give you the chance to ask questions. If you have a runny nose, you will be asked to blow and clean your nose with a tissue before the swab is taken. You will need to sit up straight and lean your head back. The nurse or doctor will put the swab into your nose. The swab will bend to the shape of your nose and the doctor or nurse will push it gently to where it needs to be. They will then place a finger on the tip of your nose and press lightly. They will then push the swab a bit more and gently turn the swab. This will not hurt but may be a bit uncomfortable. The swab will then be removed and placed in a sterile container to be sent off to a laboratory for testing.
